Just a little down time
I'm going to be doing some forum maintenance this evening, and over the weekend. If you see it shut down, it's just me breaking stuff to look tough.

UPDATE: I've completed a server change this afternoon. As the DNS resolves, more of you will see the forum open. I'm absolutely positive something will break (sooner or later), but we'll deal with it. Hopefully, you shouldn't notice any difference.

UPDATE 2: Was down for a few this afternoon (Sept 13) for some dbase maintenance.

UPDATE 3:
Installed new version of PHP and broke everything all to crap. Stupid freaking new versions... Should be ok now. Lemme know if something is weird.

Ya, have already noticed a couple of broken items, but nothing vita:

1. Taglines
2. Gamercards in the posts

I'll get those fixed.
You can do eeet!
Gamercards fixed (at least for me they are - tell me if they're not for you).
Working fine on my end.

Excellent - thanks sir.
Think there may be a small chink in the server armour. It's struggling to load the gamercard images or simply showing "cannot display".

This could just be me as my internet is being more devious than usual tonight.

I've been editing some stuff there. Check now. It is loading them slowly, but it has to pull that stuff from xbox.com, so I'm kinda limited by that speed.
Taglines fixed.
Some topics are still marked unread although I've clicked on them mutliple times after the last post was made.

Interesting - I'll do some tests.
It may as well be non related to the update.

Also, what about the YT-Channel thing I asked you a while ago? I don't want to push you, I'd just like to know.

Haven't been able to get there. I need to do some serious looking at YouTube's TOS. I'm still not convinced that the vids you put there STAY there. Maybe they do.

Did anyone ever answer that?

Galador helped me with this, but without him I don't think I would have found a solution. Maybe this could be issued as a warning for any similar changes in the future?

Holy crap - that ENSURES that the DNS will never work properly for you if it changes. I would steer clear of HOSTS file redirects except for internal network naming.

But ya - I can definitely put that up as a reminder if I do something that moves the site again. Thanks for the heads up.
Duke, this could be me or it could be memorex, idk but since your work the pages for HIH takes a while to load. Other websites don't seem to be affected but again, it could be a coinkidink. It happens on IE and Chrome and I reset my modem and rebooted when it first happened. If I scroll too soon, the page gets all weird and stretches out.

I don't think it's you. I moved the site to a server I own (actually sitting about 10 feet away from me right now). I've got some other stuff running on there right now that's competing for the processor AND it's not using fastcgi (will be soon), so it's not as rugged as where the site was.

BUT, it's hosted here, which means it requires no additional fee to host, and I can play around as much as I want.

Depending on how things, go, I'll make some changes next week that might speed things up a little.

EDIT: Also, we are now ad free! Woohoo!

EDIT 2: I've noticed that one of the biggest slowdowns seems to be the gamercards. I'll look into that.

Yeah, it's just that weirdly, I remember putting that in there on a previous operating system and not this one, so how it's changed that file I'll never know. That said, I normally seem to experience the most rare network problems for some reason

Thank you, it saves me from tinkering with my comp. The slowdown is tolerable so no biggie and I would take 'ad free' any day over top speed.
Just fyi - I've done some testing and found that no matter how I optimize, it takes around 6 seconds per gamercard on the pull from xbox live. I've disabled the gamercards for now, and the speed drastically increases.

I can always put them back without a problem, but we'll try this for a few to test the performance.
